Who hasn't dreamed of being a Dancing With The Stars celebrity dressed in red and black... smoothly gliding across the floor to the passionate music of an American tango?

According to Wikepedia...

The American style of tango originally came from Argentina but was stylized when it was popularized by the famous silent film star, Rudolph Valentino in 1921 in the film "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse".

Afterwards, the Hollywood version got mixed up with other dances popular at the time and eventually the English created a standardized version of the dance.

Arthur Murray utilized the English style version of the tango to create his own looser, social style of tango which the English called the American tango.

Today if you watch an Argentine tango on YouTube vs. an American tango vs. and English (International) tango you will see a variety of styles and influences. Both the American tango and the English tango feel more like ballroom type dances. The American tango has more of a flamboyant feel to it based on its roots in Hollywood.
